SAT and ACT REGISTRATION
Most USA schools are waiving the requirement for the SAT or ACT this year due to COVID. However, some students may still want to write the SAT or ACT.
The SAT and ACT are assessments that are typically used to evaluate students for post-secondary admissions in the USA. Most post-secondary institutions in the USA accept either an SAT or an ACT for admission.
These links will bring you to the SAT and ACT testing dates for Canada that you can register for.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT APPLYING

Get prepared by knowing where you want to apply and to which programs. Digital viewbooks from most universities and colleges will be on their websites.

It’s also helpful to attend virtual events and info sessions put on by the post-secondaries and there will be info about these in the e-mail newsletter and on the front page of the Career Centre website.

You will need your BC Provincial PEN number, which is the nine-digit number on your most recent transcript or report card.

KPU, Langara, Douglas College, BCIT: These schools start considering applications as soon as they come in and if you are applying to a “limited intake” program, it is advised to apply early if possible. They open for applications on October 1st. For Langara, the earlier you apply, the earlier your registration date will be for courses. For KPU, the earlier you accept your admission offer, the earlier your registration date will be for courses.

Deadlines: Plan to work on your application well before the deadline, especially if you are applying to UBC or another school/program with a supplemental application (see below).

Personal profiles or supplemental applications: Some universities, like UBC, have a Personal Profile or a Supplemental application that you have to include with your application- these tend to take more time so plan accordingly. Other examples of universities that have this piece of the application are Queen’s and Waterloo.
Also, if you are applying to a Business program there is usually a supplemental application (either an essay, a video essay or an interview.)

Have a back-up plan: Plan to have at least one back-up option: universities like UBC or UVic will let you select a back-up option in your application, or your backup may be a college program where you could transfer to university after 1-2 years if you choose (this is usually an option at KPU, Langara or Douglas College).

If you’re interested in taking a gap year: Ms. Fernandes has more information on gap year options (volunteer programs etc.) if you want more info. Students planning to postpone post-secondary and enter the workforce after graduation could also look into Work Experience, Apprenticeship or CTC Programs with Ms. Burr.
